memorial day

May 26, 2015

this day has been mostly celebrated as a mans military boasting day. a day where “men” are remembered for heroism and militarism. this day has been hijacked, by me, today.

this day is about remembering all the wrongs done to innocent people. this day is about remembering the system that creates wars and is invested in using people to fight their “dirty wars”. this day is about remembering people who do go into the military these days, not because of wanting to “fight for freedom”,  whatever that means, but because they have no financial alternative. this day is remembering the phrase that “freedom isn’t free” is a militaristic jingoism that does not apply these days. this day is about hearing a president say we are not involved in any WARS, yet troops are on the ground all around the world and PEOPLE do operate drones. such a false statement. it may not be a DECLARED war, but it does not have to be these days, does it?

this day is about remembering the injustice in the military system, be it sexism or racism or both.

this day is about remembering and remembering that it all can be changed at anytime, if people are invested in doing so.
